FAQs

Here are our top 10. If you can’t find what you need, email us at fulhamcamerata@gmail.com!

  1. What is the Fulham Camerata?  We are a primarily non-audition amateur community chamber choir that strives to be inclusive and musically diverse.  Membership is open to anyone who is interested in singing and who can commit to regular weekly rehearsals.

  2. What kind of music does the Fulham Camerata sing?  Our repertoire has included classical and contemporary, sacred and secular music and we sing with orchestras, piano and organ, and a cappella — however the spirit moves us!  Explore our Concerts page and Gallery – Past Concerts on this website to learn more.

  3. I’m not sure I am good enough – how will I know?  We welcome all levels of singers to the Fulham Camerata, although our repertoire can be challenging.  If you are unsure, come along to a rehearsal and try us out!

  4. Does the choir have an attendance policy?  Consistent attendance is expected if you want to sing in a concert.  Exceptions are at the sole discretion of our Musical Director.

  5. I don’t read music – can I still join?  We seek to provide access to practice aids that will help you learn the music anyway.  There is no requirement that members be able to read music, although we encourage members to continue improving their musical skills.

  6. Do I need to practice outside of rehearsals?  As we average only 10 rehearsals per term, choir members are expected to spend time outside of formal rehearsals learning their parts.  We provide rehearsal aids and performance videos each term on the Members page of the website to assist the choir.

  7. How much does it cost to join the choir?  Our subscription fees are £65 per term, plus an average of £10-15 per term for music.  Concessionary rates are available upon request.  This fee covers administration costs for rehearsals during term.  Members are also required to purchase two concert tickets per term, which are discounted if purchased at the start of term.

  8. What attire is required for the concerts?  Our dress code is all black for men and black with red accents (scarves, jewelry, etc) for women.

  9. Can I try out the choir without committing?  Prospective members are welcome to try out the Fulham Camerata for free for the first two weeks of any new term or at other times by arrangement.

  10. Where does the choir perform? We form partnerships with regular venues in the Fulham area, consistent with our identity as a community choir.  We also occasionally perform elsewhere as part of musical festivals or sponsored concerts.
